I was a Magician in Everquest, and there was a well-known tactic among our ranks. The basic idea was, you summon an earth elemental, send him at your prey, and just before he dies, start summoning up another one. If you time it just right, the pet would die, and you'd have another one to replace it half a second later, and send him in. (Plus earth pets root their opponent into the ground, which saved me several times while using this tactic).
The problem with using this tactic in SWG is that both pet classes (creature tamer and droid engineer) spend a fairly large sum of time, effort, or money on their pets, so you really don't want them to die if they don't have to. However, since we have multiple pets out at once, it should be a fairly simple matter to pull off a pet when it gets down to 25%, store him, grab a fresh replacement, and send him in. With the ability to store 14 pets, it's quite possible that by the time you've cycled through all your pets, the first one you stored will be nearly full life again, so you can repeat the cycle.
A few things to be careful of while using this tactic:
If we only had one pet, a newly retrieved pet has zero aggro, so if you have any aggro, it's very likely the MOB will ignore your new pet and come for you. However, with three pets out, there will still be two to hold aggro while you retrieve the replacement pet, so you should be able to do some supporting blaster fire between store/retrieve cycles.
You probably want to name all your pets the same three names, and replace a pet with another pet of the same name, so you only have to maintain 3 sets of hotkeys instead of 14.
This strategy makes for rather long fights, so a big worry when doing this with a single pet is adds. Even with 3 pets, if you're using this strategy, you probably can't afford to send a pet on the add, and if the add happens to be another of your primary target, you're most likely in big trouble. So try to pull the target as far away from major mob traffic lanes as possible.
Finally, realize your limitations. If a mob hits for 900 every 2 seconds, this tactic probably won't work unless it's an otherwise very weak opponent. But with 14 fully grown Rancors and this tactic, you may just be able to solo a Krayt Dragon.

P.S. Anyone in beta feel free to poke holes in this strategy. A few things that might make it unworkable are if you can't store/retrieve in battle mode, or if the process takes longer than a few seconds. Question: can you store an incapped pet to save it from the death blow?
