Hi all! Vigow here, again. I just wanted to make a recommendation. Yeah, I know. "Who's this new guy and who does he think he is?" I recommend that our military personnel use Teamspeak2 during strike missions into the heart of the Empire. This is a free download and it's much more rapid and easier to use than sending /tell's to our teammates. My friends and I use it now during beta and it comes in very handy during combat situations. The only downside is that it does tend to put a damper on role-playing when your teammate is yelling "Holy s@#t, LOOK OUT!, but it can be very useful. Just some food for thought. The website is www.teamspeak.org

I have experienced some lag when I was on a dialup connection, but it was still faster than my typing, heh.

It's a damn good idea!
In terms of using it in this PA I would only recommend it if everyone had access to one, as it is important no-one is excluded.
Could members please comment on this suggestion? Please dont be afraid to say yes or no as this is an open-discussion PA.
Perhaps we should see how the in-game chat works for us first?
tael.

I agree totally. I have a played a lot of mmorpgs and it is virtally immpossible to type fast enough when you are on a raid let alone a big one.
I say we try teamspeak.

Teamspeak sounds like a great idea, but I agree wholeheartedly with the idea that it should be reserved for raids and heavy combat times. There's plenty of reasons not to use it in non-heavy-combat times:
1. Dialup users (at least the dialup that I had out in the country) can't get a good voice over IP signal to start with, much less with a game sending packets over the same amount of bandwidth. Both applications will suffer, leading to greater chances of death in-game and worse sound quality in teamspeak, though it's probably debatable that such good communication will save more lives than packet loss will destroy if the conditions are bad enough (i.e. big raids, PvP battles, and such). 2. Creative role-playing can be difficult enough when you get to think about every word you type, even more so when you don't have a chance to edit before you send. 3. It's harder to say something you will regret later on if given a chance to think about it before sending it.
I would even suggest that your standard every day XP grind should be left in the keyboard world.
Just my two credits, David

By the way, I'll start playing around with putting the teamspeak server on my co-located (i.e. tons-o-bandwidth) linux server. That alone should improve sound quality over if the server was on a box with a 15K upload cap (cable modem) or a congested public TS2 server.

Hey guys, if you want to try out my teamspeak server, it's running at teamspeak.csworkbench.com. Feel free to use it for whatever to help me find out if there are any problems with it.

Just a followup on the TS2 situation. One thing I've noticed is that the voice activation mode is way to sensitive. Plus it activates on coughs, sneezes, and whatever other background noise there may be.
I recommend assigning it to a key or mouse button. It's hard to assign keys for TS2 in SWG because pretty much every key is used. I assigned it to the scroll wheel on my mouse. That works great for me.
